Truck Driver

COURSES OFFERED 

A (TRACTOR-TRAILER DRIVER TRAINING)

A (Tractor-Trailer Driver Training) Duration: 104 Hours (over 5 Weeks) Effective July 1, 2017, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has implemented mandatory entry-level training for commercial Class A truck drivers. All new drivers attempting the Class A road test on or after July 1, 2017 will have to successfully complete the mandatory entry-level training course before attempting their Class A Road Test. Mandatory entry-level training will be delivered by: Ontario Career Colleges registered under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005 in Ontario. CLASS “A” LICENSE– TRACTOR TRAILER You are qualified to drive any tractor-trailer combination and may also drive vehicle in Class D and G. This Program is a Vocational Program & approved under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005. TRACTOR TRAILER MELT PROGRAM Are you unemployed or looking for a new career in an industry that is in demand? Many companies are looking for professional truck drivers that have graduated with their road tests Class A or DZ licenses (for driving tractor trailers and large trucks). This comprehensive MELT 104 hours program is the Mandatory program that was introduced in 2017 and can only be offered through recognized authorities approved by MTCU and Ministry of transportation. This program includes 4 to 5 weeks of full time training of in class, in yard and in truck instruction that are set by the Ministry of transportation. This program includes all mandatory objectives set forth in the Ministry of Transportation’s Commercial Truck Driver Training Standard (Class A), released July 2017. Subjects of the program include: TRACTOR-TRAILER MELT COURSE OUTLINE: •Introduction to Trucking •Preparing for MTO Learner's permit •Employment in the Commercial Vehicle Industry •Vehicle Components & Systems •Cargo Securement •Handling Emergencies •Basic Driving Techniques •Professional Driving Habits •Tractor-Trailer Off-Road Tasks and Maneuvers •Documents, Paperwork and Regulatory Requirements •Hours of Service Compliance This program includes both classroom and practical training. The hands-on training takes place in the yard and on the road using a tractor-trailer, while under the instruction of a qualified trainer. Students will also engage in various classroom activities to help prepare for a career as a professional driver.

BZ (SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TRAINING) 

SCHOOL BUS TRAINING COURSE Class B: You are qualified to drive any school purposes bus and may also drive vehicle in Class C, D, E, F and G Minimum Requirements •Be at least 21 years of age •Meet medical & vision standards •Not have had a driver’s license under suspension at any time within the preceding 12 months as a result of being convicted of certain driving related and Criminal Code of Canada offenses. Effective January 1, 2017, MTO requires drivers who are standards •applying for a Class B or E license to obtain a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (CRJM) Check or equivalent. Applicants can apply for a CRJM Check at their local police service or through an authorized criminal record check provider. CZ (COACH BUS DRIVER TRAINIING) 

COACH BUS TRAINING A Class C license is needed to drive any bus with seats for more than 24 passengers, but not a school-purposes bus carrying passengers. It allows the driver to operate vehicles included in classes D, F and G, but not motorcycles TRACTOR-TRAILER MELT COURSE OUTLINE: •Be at least 18 years of age •Must hold a valid Ontario Driver’s License “G” or higher •Meet Medical and Vision Standard •Class C Training Includes: •Pre-trip Coach bus Inspection •Picking passengers, dropping off passengers •Rail road train tracks crossings •Professional Driving Habits •In cab theory, emergency exits •Medical form provided •Turning, and backing up Observation •Bus included for the M.T.O. road test

DZ (D-TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING) 

DUMP TRUCK TRAINING: Class D: You are qualified to drive any truck or combination provided the towed vehicle not over 4600 Kg. CLASS D TRAINING INCLUDES: •Pre-trip Truck Inspection •One on one training •Log book in cab inspection •automatic Transmission •Turning, and backing up •In cab theory, emergency exits •Truck/Bus included for the M.T.O. road test CLASS D DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: •Be at least 18 years of age •Must hold a valid Ontario Driver’s License “G” or higher •Meet Medical and Vision Standard

AIR BRAKE 

AIR BRAKES Start dates: Weekly Duration: 2 days (12 hours) Must have: Ontario Class 'G' license or higher. This course is designed to educate students on the air brake system, including its components and maintenance procedures. It is a mandatory requirement for anyone operating a truck or bus equipped with an air brake system. The course is divided into two parts: theoretical instruction and practical application. Spanning two consecutive days, the course totals 12 hours and provides students with a comprehensive understanding of air brake systems. Each instructors is certified and approved by the Ontario Safety League. LEARNING OUTCOMES: •Upon successful completion of the course, Candidates will be able to explain about air brake system. •Successful candidates will be given a certificate issued by Ontario Safety League •Able to identify the defects of air brake system components. •Brake adjustment

REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINING

  • Must have a valid driver's license "G" or higher.

  • Applicant must be 18 years or older for classes A, C & D.

  • Must be 21 years or older for class B & E with no criminal record.

  • Be able pass MTO medical requirements 

  • Must Pass Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Knowledge Test for the class of your choice (Test preparation is provided in-class)

  • Grade 10 English or equivalent

  • No Requirements for Forklift Training & Certification.
